What Detourist is: Detourist is a community-driven guide to offbeat, lesser-known places for weekend trips and day getaways. Places, photos, and edits are contributed by users like you and reviewed before or after going live, depending on the contribution type.
Your account: You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your account credentials secure. Accounts are personal — please don't share login credentials.
Contributing places, photos, and edits: When you submit a place, add a photo, or suggest an edit to an existing place, you confirm that the content is either your own original work or that you otherwise hold the rights necessary to share it, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's copyright or other rights. By uploading a photo, you grant Detourist a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, reproduce, and distribute that photo on the app and in related promotional material (for example, on the place's page, in search results, or in social sharing previews). You retain ownership of your photos — this license doesn't transfer copyright to us.
Content review and removal: New place submissions and suggested edits from the community are reviewed before they change what's publicly visible. Anyone can report a photo as irrelevant or as a copyright violation; reported photos are reviewed and may be removed. We may remove any content that violates these Terms, infringes someone's rights, or is otherwise inappropriate, at our discretion.
Acceptable use: Don't submit content you don't have the rights to, don't misrepresent a place's location or safety, and don't use the app to harass other users or spam the review queues. Accounts that repeatedly violate these Terms may be restricted or removed.
Location data: When you use a "current location" feature (for example, to default a search origin), your device's location is used only to perform that request — it's sent to our servers as part of the relevant search request and is not stored beyond what's needed to serve that request.
Drive times & search radius are estimates: Drive-time radius and "on-the-way" corridor searches use routing estimates based on typical road speeds — they don't account for real-time traffic, road closures, or weather conditions. Treat displayed drive times as approximate, and always check current conditions before heading out, especially for longer or rural drives.
Local Scout responsibilities: Local Scouts can add and edit places directly, without another person reviewing the change first — so as a Scout, you're vouching for what you submit as personally known or verified, not copied from another source. There's no payment, sponsorship, or compensation for this role; it's a volunteer/community role. We may revoke Scout status for submissions that are inaccurate, spammy, or made in bad faith. Applications to become a Scout are typically reviewed within 7 days; if an application isn't reviewed by then, Scout status is granted automatically.
Changes to these Terms: We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, new signups will be asked to agree to the updated Terms; continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance for existing accounts.
